Police arrest cannabis growers in Dutch greenhouse

The owner of a greenhouse in the southern Dutch town of Ulicoten helped police arrest his tenants on suspicion of running a cannabis plantation. Nine people were arrested.

The tenants' behaviour raised the owner's suspicions, upon which he blocked the drive with his tractor and phoned the police. The suspects were unable to flee in their car and were arrested after police discovered a plantation of 2000 cannabis plants and thousands of offshoots in the greenhouse. The people arrested are seven Bulgarian women and two Turkish men.

Although the use of cannabis is not banned in the Netherlands, production and storage of the drug are illegal.
