Philips’ investigations into suspected corruption in the company only involve its activities in Poland, the Dutch electronics giant stressed on Thursday. “We’ve no reason to believe that we should be looking at other countries as well,” said a Philips spokesperson.

Earlier this week, it surfaced that the Dutch multinational had launched a probe into bribery at Philips Poland as early as last year. It is alleged that Polish hospital managers were bribed to buy medical equipment from Philips. Three members of Philips’ staff in Poland were sacked some years ago because of the scam.

The Philips office in Hamburg in Germany is also being investigated because it directed the company’s operations in Poland up to 2002. The spokesperson stressed that only the particular department of Philips Hamburg which dealt with operations in Poland was being probed.
