One million cars on Dutch roads by 2012

Over one million cars will be driving on Dutch roads in 2012. The figure, released by automotive trade association BOVAG Friday, reflects an increase of 500,000 new vehicles.

This year, Dutch drivers purchased 550,000 new cars. Although expectations for 2012 are lower, BOVAG says it is still higher than the annual average of 490,000 cars.

The optimistic outlook reflects an energised automotive market that has grown since the start of 2011. However, BOVAG remains cautious about 2012 predictions given current economic uncertainty.

I am puzzled by the figures given. 550,000 new cars per year? While there is a total of 1M cars in NL? It would mean that we purchase on average a new car every 2 years... Hardly possible, especially seeing how many Dutch love very old cars :-)

I believe there is a mistake in the numbers...
