No Dutch residence for Angolan asylum seeker

1st November 2011, Comments 1 comment

Dutch MPs have voted down two motions which would have allowed 18-year-old Angolan asylum seeker Mauro Manuel to remain permanently in the Netherlands.

He has been living in the southern Dutch province of Limburg with a foster family since he entered the country as an unaccompanied asylum seeker at the age of 10. He is now facing automatic deportation because he is no longer underage.

The Dutch parliament is expected to vote next week on a compromise motion which would allow him to stay in the Netherlands until he hears whether or not an application for a temporary four-year student visa has been successful.

Crazy. This guy has put his heart and soul into being a Dutchman: he's fluent, he's studying at college! If he'd been old enough, I'm sure he'd have passed the inburgering 3 years ago and have a passport now - far more worthy than many native Dutch layabouts. It will be a complete travesty if he fails to get a student visa.

Who took the 'Christian' out of the CDA? "Suffer the children, let them come unto me" ... you can tell Jesus wasn't Dutch! More important to tow the PVV/VVD line, I guess, than listen to the voting public.

See you next elections, guys (but not for long, hypocrits)
