The Netherlands is back at the table with the G20, the group of the worlds’ twenty most important economies. Dutch Finance Minister Jan Kees de Jager has been invited to a G20 seminar in China next week.

The meeting is to consider an overhaul of the global monetary system, Mr Jager says. Countries including the United States, France, Germany and the United Kingdom will be sending their finance ministers.

The Netherlands is not a member of the G20 and was not invited to the last summit at heads of government level. Former Dutch prime minister Jan Peter Balkenende regularly managed to secure an invitation.

According to Mr De Jager the G20 values the Netherlands’ contribution in the field of monetary politics. However, he said the invitation was “not a ticket to future G20 meetings”.
