Modest economic growth in NL

The Bureau for Economic Policy Analysis CPB predicts a modest 1.75 percent economic growth for the Dutch economy this year compared to 1.5 percent in 2012.

The budget deficit is predicted to drop quickly from 5.2 percent in 2010 to 3.7 percent this year and 2.2 percent in 2012. The CPB says that the modest growth figures do not fully make up for the loss of growth sustained during the recent recession. Most of the economic growth is the result of growing exports. Increasing family consumption and business investments are also making a contribution to the slightly more positive figures.

Unemployment continues to decrease, to four percent in 2012. The CPB says that the growing tightness of the labour market is surprising so soon after a deep recession.
