Ratko Mladic is on a plane to the Netherlands to face trial for war crimes during the Bosnian war in the nineties. The Serbian minister of Justice, Snezana Malovic, confirmed the reports at a press conference.

According to Dutch press agency ANP he will be flown to Rotterdam-The Hague Airport from where he will be taken to a cell in Scheveningen. He is expected to land in the Netherlands this evening.

Earlier today a Serbian court rejected a bid to block the transfer to the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia ICTY. His family argues he is too ill to be face trial in The Hague.

The Bosnian-Serb former general is accused of commiting war crimes during the siege of Sarajevo and the mass murder of 8,000 Muslims in Srebrenica in 1995 during the Bosnian war.
