KPN reports falling turnover

Telecom service provider KPN reported on Tuesday that turnover has again fallen in the third quarter of 2011. The costs of an earlier reorganisation have led to a decrease in net profits.

KPN’s turnover decreased by 115 million euros to 3.26 billion euros. The decrease was the result of lower earnings in the Dutch mobile phone market, while earnings from abroad remained stable. The company reported a net profit of 368 million euros, more than 9 percent lower compared to last year.

Earlier this year KPN warned of disappointing results because a strong increase in the use of mobile internet has led to a reduction in text messaging and telephone traffic. KPN has since introduced new mobile phone subscriptions which include higher rates for internet use.
