Greeks send Advocaat packing in Euro 2012

The outgoing trainer of the Russian football squad, Dutchman Dick Advocaat, appears to be putting a brave face on his team’s surprising early exit from the Euro 2012 soccer championships. He still maintains the Russians were a better team than the Greeks who knocked them out of the competition.

This is his last appearance as manager of Russia’s soccer squad. He is returning to the Netherlands to take up the reins at Dutch club PSV in Eindhoven. Unfortunately, his dreams of Russia going through to the quarter finals of the European championships have now been dashed.

After showing early promise, thrashing the Czech Republic 4-1 in their opening match, it looked like the Russian team might match or even better their performance four years ago when they made it to the semi-finals.

However, they could only manage a 1-1 against Poland in the following game. Their hopes were finally dashed on Saturday when they were beaten 1-0 by Greece.
