Education and research investments lagging

A report issued by a government commission created to boost education, research and innovation concludes that the country is investing far too little in those areas.

THE NETHERLANDS - The Innovation Platform says billions of euros in extra investments are needed for the country not to fall behind the United States, Germany, Sweden or Canada, which invest much more in education and research.

Specific projects include wind energy and electronic medical records.

The commission, which is made up of captains of industry, top scientists and senior civil servants, says the global crisis should not deter the cabinet from investing.

It stresses that the crisis requires the cabinet to increase its investments.
