THE NETHERLANDS – According to a survey conducted by one of the Netherlands' largest funeral companies, Dutch-language music is extremely popular at funerals and cremations but an English song came in as the top choice.

Yarden Funeral Directors put 250 songs on their website and asked visitors to vote for the song they wanted at their funeral. Of the 6,000 people who responded to the enquiry, 30 percent chose a Dutch song.

The number one choice is Cried for You by Katie Melua, while hits by Dutch stars Mathilde Santing and Robert Long make it into the top five.

The survey indicates that tastes are changing; a significant number of respondents said they wanted a heavy metal hit or a pounding dance number by a top DJ played at their funeral.

Yarden's director says music tastes are not the only things that are changing. He adds: "Lots of people are choosing to have a glass of rosé and tapas instead of the traditional coffee and cake."
