Dutch skating champion extends lead

At the European Skating Allround Championships in Heerenveen, Dutch world champion Sven Kramer has won the 1,500 metres a day after winning the five kilometres.

HEERENVEEN - Clocking 1.46,53, he beat Russian Jevgeni Lalenkov and the Italian Enrico Fabris, who ended second and third.

His latest victory gives him an impressive 23-second overall lead over his nearest rival, Wouter Olde Heuvel.

The women's ranking is being led by Germany's Claudia Pechtein, who won the three kilometres and came second in the 500 metres, which was won by Russia's Alla Shabanova.

Germany's Daniela Anschütz and Dutch skater Paulien van Deutekom are second and third in the overall ranking.
