In the first six months of this year, more people moved to the Netherlands than left to live abroad.

The Dutch statistics office CBS says there were about 66,000 immigrants, while around 58,000 Dutch emigrated to other countries. Both figures were up on the same period in 2010. Most immigrants were from European Union countries such as Poland.

In the first half of this year, around 88,500 babies were born and 68,000 people died. The total Dutch population grew by nearly 29,000.
