Dutch masters travel to Qatar

The Museum for Islamic Art in the capital of Qatar Doha, is holding an exhibition of Dutch masters in March.

Forty-four paintings by Rembrandt, Johannes Vermeer, Frans Hals, Jan Steen and Albert Cuyp will be loaned to the museum by Amsterdam's Rijksmuseum. It is the first time that part of the collection will be seen in the Middle East. It is also the higest quality selection of paintings from the Golden Age ever to be sent abroad.

The exhibition aims to give an Arab audience the opportunity to view art from the Dutch Golden Age. A publication accompanying the exhibition The Golden Age of Dutch Painting - Masterpieces from the Rijksmuseum Amsterdam will be the first ever Arabic publication on this era.

Just before the exhibition opens, in March, Queen Beatrix, Prince Willem-Alexander and Princess Máxima will pay a state visit to Qatar at the invitation of emir Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani.
