Dutch conservatives: scope for air strikes F-16s

29th March 2011, Comments 0 comments

The conservative party VVD – The main coalition partner in the minority government – feels Dutch F-16s deployed to Libya to enforce a UN no-fly zone should also be available for air strikes on ground targets, should NATO decide to carry out such attacks. At present, the cabinet rules out Dutch participation in attacks on ground targets.

VVD MP Han ten Broeke has confirmed reports published on Tuesday in populist newspaper De Telegraaf. He pointed out that the UN resolution on Libya allows for attack on military targets when they pose an immediate threat to civilians.
