The European peace mission in Chad, known as EUFOR, ended last night at midnight.

THE NETHERLANDS - Before leaving the Dutch contingent handed over their remaining stocks of medicines to an aid organisation which will distribute the 25 boxes of antibiotics, bandages and sterile needles.

The Dutch mission comprising of 60 soldiers were deployed to Chad last June to ensure the safety of aid workers and refugees in camps in the border region of Sudan.

The EUFOR mission, which comprised a total of 3,300 troops, has been taken over by a 5,000-strong United Nations force. Two thousand EUFOR troops will transfer to the UN mission.
