THE NETHERLANDS - The cabinet is going to set up a piracy office for ships sailing under the Dutch flag.

Ships will be able to request assistance from the government if it looks as though they are about to become the victims of pirates.

The Hague will be able, for example, to send another ship to accompany the threatened vessel, or despatch helicopters to keep track of the situation.

However the shipping companies will still be responsible for the protection of their ships and crews.
