Demand still down for temporary workers

The industrial and technological sectors reported the sharpest decline compared with the same period in 2008.

Lijnden – The demand for temporary workers in the Netherlands has continued to fall, reported the Dutch association of temporary employment agencies (ABU).

The average number of hours worked by temporary staff from mid-May to mid-June fell by 24 percent compared to the same period in 2008.

The steepest decrease was recorded in the industrial and technological sectors.

The number of hours worked by temporary staff in the technological sector was down 32 percent compared to the 2008 figures. The industrial sector was close behind with a decrease of 29 percent.

The ABU figures are based on information received from 80 percent of the temporary work agencies in the Netherlands.
