US outlet chain TJ Maxx to open in two Dutch cities

14th July 2015, Comments 1 comment

US outlet chain TJ Maxx is to open stores in Rotterdam and Eindhoven this autumn.

It is the second time the company will try to gain a foothold in the Dutch market, following an earlier attempt between 1999 and 2001, the Financieele Dagblad reported on Monday.

Although the attempt failed, TJ Maxx did pave the way for other outlet centres such as Batavia which opened in Lelystad in 2001.

The new openings in the Netherlands are part of the company’s global expansion. It already has outlets in six overseas countries and is adding Austria and the Netherlands this year, where the stores will bear the names TK Maxx and HomeSense.

TJ Max saw net sales of $29.1bn in 2014.

What silly reporting. TJ Max is NOTHING like Batavia Stad. The latter is is collection of "wannabe" outlet shops where as TJ is a stack-em-high, price-em-low bazaar selling everything from last seasons high fashion outsized winter coats to stock-lots of cheap shoes - kind of an Action meets Primark if you like.
