Former US president Bill Clinton has praised Dutch entrepreneur Coen van Oostrom for his outstanding contributions to climate control.

At the annual meeting of the Clinton Global Initiative in New York, the former president lauded Mr Van Oostrom for spending one billion dollars over the past three years to develop sustainable buildings that use far less energy than conventional structures.

President Clinton charged the Rotterdam entrepreneur with setting up a fund to invest in the exchange of knowledge about sustainable construction in the so-called C40, a group of cities around the world eager to combat greenhouse gas emissions. cl/imm
