AMSTERDAM - Youngsters who get into trouble with the police in the Pijp (Pipe) district of Amsterdam are going to get a yellow card from now on.

Those falling foul of the law a second time will face punishment. It is hoped the new police policy will reduce problems in the neighbourhood.

Up to now, the names of those cautioned by the police were not listed, and young people repeatedly causing trouble were able to escape scot-free.

The police also plan to tackle the parents of problem youngsters. If the new approach proves successful, it will be introduced in other areas of the capital.
