At Ajax, the members’ council has convened in the ArenA to discuss the latest development in the footbal club’s management crisis. The meeting could have far-reaching consequences.

At the meeting, members will discuss the situation that has arisen after Supervisory Board members Steven ten Have, Edgar Davids, Marjan Olfers and Paul Römer appointed Louis van Gaal as the club’s chief executive without informing their fellow board member Johan Cruyff. Johan Cruyff and Loius van Gaal are known not see eye to eye.

The legendary number 14 is attending the meeting as honoury member of the club he can attend all meetings. The other members of the Supervisory Board cannot attend.

Both Steven ten Have and Johan Cruijff  have 30 minutes to address the meeting. Mr ten Have told NOS public broadcaster on Saturday that he wants to keep both icons in the club.  "We have got two icons in Ajax now. Johan Cruyff, the best footballer ever, and Louis van Gaal, the best trainer ever,"  There are fears that if Loius van Gaal stays Johan Cruyff will turn his back on the club.

Mr Ten Have told journalists outside the stadium, “I hope we can reach a mutual agreement.” But this seems unlikely after all that has been said.

Johan Cruijff is calling for a swift decision. “It has already taken too long.”
