Van Gaal elected best trainer this season

THE NETHERLANDS – Louis van Gaal has been elected best trainer for the 2008-2009 season by his colleagues in the Dutch professional football league. He beat Steven McClaren of FC Twente, which was the runner up in both the premier league and the Dutch football association cup final, and Nijmegen’s  NEC trainer Mario Been, who is moving to Feyenoord Rotterdam.

Van Gaal will coach German team Bayern München next season after taking Alkmaar’s AZ to the top of the premier league this year. This is the second time he has won this award. He also won it in 2007.

Foppe de Haan, former coach for Heerenveen, this year’s winner of the Dutch football association cup and the Dutch youth team Jong Orange, which made it to the Under 17s UEFA final, has been awarded a prize for his life’s work from the Professional Football Coaches association.
