Police investigate kidnap report

1 November 2005

AMSTERDAM — Police in the southern Dutch city of Eindhoven are investigating a claim that a local woman, 37, and an unidentified man were abducted following an armed robbery at a drug den on Monday night.

A police spokesperson said on Tuesday they are still trying to establish the facts and it is not clear what happened precisely.

The building on the Jeroen Boschlaan in Eindhoven is known to the police to be used by people dealing in and using illegal drugs.

A 45-year-old resident, a German, 39, an unidentified man and the woman were present in the building on Monday. Two armed men entered at 9.30pm, beat the German and stole his wallet.

After the resident and the German were tied up, the robbers left with the woman and the third man in the German’s car. It is unclear if the woman and the man left under duress or whether they voluntarily accompanied the robbers.

The men left behind in the house managed to free themselves and alert the police.
