Parliament donates EUR 8,700 to Glass House

21 December 2007

THE HAGUE – After the conclusion of Parliament’s last meeting for 2007 on Thursday evening MPs donated about EUR 8,700 to the 3FM action for clean drinking water, the Glass House.

On the Plein in The Hague, across from the parliamentary building, three DJs have been locked up in a Glass House since Wednesday where they will spend six days playing music and fasting. Gerard Ekdom, Michiel Veenstra and Rob Stenders want the campaign to raise awareness to the shortage of clean drinking water in many places of the world.

The three hope that a total of EUR 3 million will be raised, Stenders said Wednesday. In previous years the Glass House was set up in Utrecht.

Most of the parliamentary factions participated in the collection action, which was an initiative of ChristenUnie MP Ed Anker. Speaker of Parliament Gerdi Verbeet and a group of MPs personally delivered the money to the Glass House.
