AMSTERDAM — The controversial Dutch-Belgian Arab European League (AEL), which “saluted” the Iraqi resistance in an internet-published statement last week, had its website taken offline over the weekend.
The group’s internet provider said it had put a temporary block on the website “due to matters of content”, but the AEL is back online with another provider. Its website is now hosted by a Malaysian-based provider, Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf reported on Wednesday.
The AEL, which has branches in Belgium and the Netherlands, “saluted” last week the armed resistance to the US-led coalition being mounted by “the Iraqi population” in Fallujah.
Dutch AEL secretary Naima Elmaslouhi said on the organisation’s Dutch, Belgian and English-language websites that the US army was carrying out an aggressive terrorist attack on the city of Fallujah, killing hundreds of people.
She said the legitimate resistance against the illegal US occupation of Iraq is taking an important turn and US tactics “will only generate more resistance from our Arab people in Iraq and will eventually lead to the crushing of the occupation”.
The AEL later confirmed its internet service provide (ISP) had blocked its website due to matters of content, but the organisation was able to re-launch its website within 12 hours.
The AEL has not confirmed the name of either its new or former ISP, but its website can be found at arabeuropean.org.
