First welcome fair a big hit with expats

25 October 2004

AMSTERDAM — The expat welcome fair held at the weekend was such a big success it might become an annual event in the Netherlands, the organisers said Monday.

A great success … the welcome fair might become an annual event

More than 3,500 people visited Expatica’s Welcome to the Netherlands fair in the Beurs van Berlage in central Amsterdam on Sunday.

It was billed as the only event designed to “tell you everything you need to know about Dutch life in one day”.

There were a total of 85 stands. The exhibitors included financial firms, estate and relocation agencies, recruitment agencies, schools and universities, social and sports clubs and book stores.

The event featured “fun and informal” presentations on the local culture and how to integrate children into life in the Netherlands. There was also a clog maker on hand to show visitors how the traditional Dutch footwear is made.

“Given the number of visitors and the general hunger for good quality information about setting up home in the Netherlands, we see there is great potential to make this an annual event,” Expatica’s Marketing and Events Manager Mark Batty said.

He said Expatica would also investigate the feasibility of holding similar events in some of the other European countries it is active in. Expatica has websites for expats in Belgium, France, Germany and Spain.
