US officials to attend Nijmegen bombing memorial

Representatives of the US government is to attend the ceremony on Wednesday to remember those who died in the bombing of Nijmegen in 1944. The Municipality invited the US delegation. An estimated 800 people, including 24 children, died when Allied bombers mistook Nijmegen as their target and flattened the centre of the city. An investigation last year confirmed the US and British bomber crews made a terrible mistake.

Soldier had 200 child porn pictures

The Public Prosecutor’s Office (OM) demanded a 240 community work order for a Dutch soldier who was caught with child porn on his computer. An trace of his IP address by the  Italian police led to the discovery of 200 photographs and five films of girls aged between 5 and 8. The girls were in provocative poses or were being abused. The defendant claimed it started when he came across a pop up advert while he was looking for porn involving teenagers of a legal age. He clicked the advert away but slowly became interested in very young girls and began saving pictures of them.

New tips in Seveke case

Police in the Dutch city of Nijmegen have received six tips from the public in relation to the assassination of political activist Louis Sévèke on 15 November. The tips resulted from police enquiries in the neighbourhood on Friday and Saturday. Investigators want to speak to people who say anything unusual in the vicinity of Eilbrachtstraat and Van Welderenstraat where Seveke was shot.

Burglar dies in Enschede 

A 26-year-old burglar was killed during a fight with the owners of a home in the Dutch city of Enschede. Police arrested the two men, aged 32 and 63, who tackled the criminal. A decision on whether to charge them with a crime had not been taken by Monday afternoon.
