Hello, I am an american who is living for many years in Brazil. I met my Dutch boyfriend and we want to get married. Problem: can I get a tourist visa and get married there? Is the affidavit of single has to be issued in Amsterdam (seems like only for who has a permit) or Brazil or US Embassy? It is hard to enter as a fiancée so can I just get there and get married within 2 weeks? I am really confused and seems like no one can answer. Can you help? Thanks.

I sent in a question back in July about the validity of a British will in the Netherlands and never received a response. I see other questions sent in later have been responded to. What is your policy on this?

Dear Rachel,

Can you recommend a legal insurance for an expat in Netherlands as most of the current insurance lawyers are not able to give advise in English?

Dear Rachel,

My Netherlands' residence permit is going to expired next month, and I have applied for an extension. However, the decision is still pending. I will travel to Spain, Sweden and Norway by the end of next month. If the extension has been approved but I am yet to get my new residence permit before traveling to those countries, am I able to do so?

Hi Rachel

I took out pet insurance. It covers cleaning of teeth for my two cats as an optional (paid) extra. About a month after getting insurance I took them to the vet for teeth cleaning. Now the company refuses to pay the bill because it was a pre-existing condition. I've tried to raise it with them but they still say it's not covered. While I am specifically paying extra for teeth cleaning. Normally it's not possible to end the insurance before one year but what are my rights? Can I cancel?

Dear Rachel, I am currently in the Netherlands on a knowledge migrant permit. I have a foreign passport and it has expired. The embassy refused to renew it as I did not complete my military service in my home country. Is this compromising my current knowledge residence permit? If yes, am I eligible to apply for a vreemdelingspaspoort as a solution, despite the fact that my embassy does not want to provide a letter? Thank you very much.

Hello, Rachel!

I took out a private loan with ING while I was studying for a Masters degree in the Netherlands. I ended up not finishing the degree and moving on to another career option. I wasn't earning enough salary to pay back the ING loan and it went into default. I plan on paying the debt, but it is taking me longer than initially expected.

I was told that it is possible to be banned from entering the EU (or maybe the Schengen zone) with this type of personal debt. Is this true?

I need to contact a lawyer urgently, specialised in labour law/employment in The Netherlands, to consult an Employment Contract I have just been offered and that seems to include abusive clauses. Of course I am willing to pay (reasonable price) for the consultation. Could you please provide me some contact (email would be better than phone, as I don't live in the Netherlands yet), and the approximate fee for consulting a 9 pages long Employment Contract. Thanks!
