Hi Phil,
I sure hope you can help me. I received the following message from ASR. My problem is that the policy was started when I jointly bought a house with who they name as Investment Insurance owner. Everything was set up at once, the mortgage, the investment insurance, 50/50. Now that we are about to sell the house, and we need to split any proceeds (and satisfy the mortgage), I worry that I don't seem to be entitled to the equity that has built up in the Investment Insurance. "

We are Canadians, residents of France since mid 2012 and just recently were informed by our advisor/broker in Toronto that they can no longer handle our portfolio. I understand the need for AML legislation and tighter global securities regulations. Is it time now to repatriate our portfolio to France? And just deal with the associated taxation issues.

Hi Phil, I moved about 6 months ago to The Netherlands. I've a savings account and every month I'm putting money aside but I would like to experiment with some investment/financial products so I could get more out of my money. I've zero knowledge of what I can do, so would be good to at least know which path should I follow and keep investigating before making my decision. Would you recommend any type of financial product, a website or book that will give me more information according to the Dutch market? I don't have a big amount of money right now, so the idea is more to add a monthly amount from my salary. Thanks!

Hello, I'm holding IRA funds in the US with Wells Fargo. We live in Germany since 2009. W.F. told me that they will discontinue "international accounts" of my size and I need to transfer my funds somewhere else. However, other financial services companies are telling me that they can't open an account for me because I live abroad, and they are not able to help me out. Do you have a tip with firm would open an account for me and manage my funds ?

Hi Phil,
We are relocating to the NL from South Africa. We have built up a nest egg of around 200K euro. We will be looking to buy a house in the NL. Given the tax breaks on mortgage repayments, does it make more sense to invest our nest egg separately or to use it as a downpayment on a house? If the former, what sort of montly income can we realistically achieve from investing our nest egg, while still beating inflation? Also you thoughts on diversifying risk please?
Regards
Pierre

Dear Phil, We're planning to buy our first house in Amsterdam as an investment (we'll borrow the full amount from a family member so no mortgage through a bank). We live/work in Melbourne (I'm dutch and my girlfriend is french/australian) and we'll rent it out until we eventually move back to NL, otherwise it will remain an investment. What yearly taxes (vermogensbelasting?) would we pay on the paid off house and the income received on the monthly rent? Thanks in advance. Menno
