Hello,

I just wonder if the childcare/kindergarten/preschool policy applicable to expats. That is if the Dutch child benefit and child allowance are applicable to internationals who work in the Netherlands or only Dutch citizen and Dutch permanent residents? Thank you. In particular, I have a four-year-old boy and wonder the cost of his daycare. Thank you.

Emmy,
I am moving to The Hague next Spring. My son will be 11 years old then. Is it legal for him to ride his bike to school alone and go home himself after?

Hi Emmy,
Me and my partner are getting married here in the Netherlands both British nationals. We have spoken with the council (gemeente) and filled out all the relevant paperwork but when I questioned about taking my partners surname they informed me here in the Netherlands you don't take there surname and I should arrange to change this to my partners beforehand and then they can put this on our marriage certificate. Do you know how or where I would go for help to do this? Are you aware of anyone else who has been in this situation and how they might of solved this?
I did go on GOV.uk page and spoke with them but basically I was informed they where unsure and I should maybe speak with a lawyer, which I found a bit bizarre.
Hopefully you can give me some advise, I look forward to your response.
Kindest regards,
Emma

Dear Emmy

I (a Brit) got married to my Dutch husband 2 years ago, and we opted for the little book rather than a marriage certificate. I now need to produce my marriage certificate to various organisations in the UK. How do I go about getting a certified copy of this certificate (from gemeente Den Bosch, if that makes any difference)

Many thanks!

Dear Emmy,

I'm a Finnish mum with a few months old baby girl. She was born in Finland and has a Finnish nationality and passport. Now me and my English husband and the father of the child are planning on moving to the UK. If, for some reason, we have a divorce while living in the UK, who gets the custody of our daughter? I'm taking care of the baby at home while my husband is working full time. I'm going to take care of her at home until she is about 1,5 years old.

Thank you,
Laura

Dear Emmy,

I'm a Spanish mum of two beautiful girls. I'm living with my Dutch boyfriend in Tilburg. Things are not going well in our relationship and I want to make sure what are my rights in case we separate and I want to move back to my country (Spain). My 2 daughters are born in Ireland ( where we used to live before moving here). We are not married and I never sign any custody arrangement even when I do recognize my boyfriend is without any doubt the father and they have his surname.

Now that we are fighting more I said that I would like to go back to Spain because here I do not have family or friends, and he said that if I do not sign the joint custody in the Netherlands he won't let me bring my kids. He even took their passports. I have to go now for a week to Spain to work and I would like to bring my kids to my family for a week, but he said that if I don't sign the joint custody won't let me.

I'm afraid that if I go with my kids he can report me for kidnapping my kids.

Can you, please, help me? Can you advise if being mum not married and not signed joint custody I can have the right to bring my kids with me?

Thanks and looking forward to your reply,

María

I have a 3yr daughter currently in kinderopvang 3 full days a week. My Dutch sister-in-law told me that, as my daughter is bilingual, she may be entitled to free peuterspeelzaal 3 mornings a week, which would bring our childcare bill down a lot. Do you know if this is indeed the case, and if so, how we go about applying for this? Many thanks

Hello! My partner and I are expats living in A'dam. We are expecting our first child in a month. I would like to immediately (as possible) obtain a U.S. and Aussie passport for her, as those are our nationalities. How/Where do they even take an appropriate eyes-open photo of a newborn on demand? Any advice on how to proceed with paperwork?

Hi,
I'm coming to Leeuwarden University as a student along with my 21 month old son. We are Bangladeshi born. For the last 5 years I was in London and my baby was born there. Can I get child allowance for my son? My husband is not coming with me.
