BONDY (AFP) – Forty-one people were injured, 10 seriously, when a violent gas explosion set ablaze a building in a north Paris suburb on Tuesday, emergency services said.
Some 150 firefighters were called to help put out the flames and tend to the wounded, who were evacuated to hospital burns units and to a nearby supermarket turned into a makeshift medical ward.
Interior Minister Alliot-Marie also travelled to the scene, where major roadworks had been under way. Police confirmed the blast was an accident were working to stem the gas leak.
