French swap mums instead of wives

PARIS, Jan 12 (AFP) – French TV this week launches a new programme inspired by Britain’s big draw “Wife Swap” – but instead of spouses the French have taken the softer option of simply switching mums.

Entitled “We changed mothers”, the first edition being screened on the M6 network Tuesday has a “maniac mother” obsessed by tidiness change places with a lackadaisical “bohemian”.

The transplanted bohemian mother makes the children happy but drives the equally obsessive house-proud father to distraction.

The series, which continues next month, was inspired by Channel 4’s “Wife Swap”, which doubled the channel’s ratings. Thomas Valentin, deputy head of M6, said the new show was a “life experience documentary.”
