VATICAN CITY, March 11, 2008 - Pope Benedict XVI will carry out his
first official visit to France from September 12-15 during which he will go to
Paris and the shrine city of Lourdes, the religious news agency I-media
reported Friday.
Quoting Vatican sources, it said the pope will meet with President Nicholas
Sarkozy in Paris and then head to Lourdes in southwest France, which is
marking the 150th anniversary of the Virgin Mary's apparition to Bernadette
Soubirous -- which Roman Catholics consider a miracle.
The pope has said he intends to visit France in 2008 but a Vatican
spokesman told AFP it was "too early" to give details of the proposed visit.
Benedict XVI has one tour planned in April to the United States and another
in July to Australia for World Youth Day.
