Dock strike ends at Marseille, oil terminals stay shut

Workers at the French port of Marseille-Fos on Monday ended a strike they called Friday to protest pension reform plans, unions and port officials said.

But the nearby Mediterranean oil terminals at Lavera and Fos-sur-Mer remained blocked by separate strike action sparked by government plans to privatise ports, unions said.

The CGT union was due to hold a press conference later Monday to make announcements about the strike at the oil terminals, whose closure has forced rationing of diesel in some French Mediterranean ports.

The strike action over pension reform closed France's main commercial ports on Friday.

Transport Minister Dominique Bussereau told RTL radio Monday that he was "not worried" about the strike action, noting that freight had resumed at the Marseille ports.

"There remains a problem to be resolved at the refineries. Negotiations will soon begin," he said.
