A trio of businessmen including internet entrepreneur Xavier Niel and arts patron Pierre Berge won control of Le Monde newspaper on Monday, a source close to the company's supervisory board said.

Eleven of the board's 20 members voted in favour of the bid by Berge, Niel and Mathieu Pigasse of the investment bank Lazard to take over the struggling newspaper, the source told AFP.
