France cautioned on Friday that a deal to end bloodshed in Ukraine was not yet definitive, after the country's embattled president announced he and the opposition had reached an agreement.

"We have agreed not to say anything until the end of the morning," Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius told AFP in the Chinese capital Beijing, where he arrived for a visit after participating in crisis talks with other EU foreign ministers in Kiev.

"The opposition, in particular, wants to be able to consult with some of its members, which is completely understandable," he told French radio separately.
