The French current account balance showed a reduced deficit in April, official data showed on Friday.

The deficit amounted to 3.5 billion euros (4.2 billion dollars) from 4.5 billion euros in March, on an adjusted basis, the Bank of France said.

In the 12 months to April, the current account balance showed a cumulative deficit of 38.1 billion euros, before adjustment for seasonal factors.

The current account measures all current payments into and out of a country, including payments for trade, services, investments and money transfers. It is considered to be a key underlying measure of the relative strength, stability and competitiveness of an economy.
