Top French chef sued over oil spill

LYON, France, October 13 (AFP) – A cookery school run by top French chef Paul Bocuse is being sued by a Mexican woman who broke her leg after slipping on a puddle of spilled oil, her lawyer said Thursday.

Maribel Figueroa, 48, paid EUR 4,600 euros in 2002 for a three-week course at the Paul Bocuse Institute in the southeastern city of Lyon.

“Her injuries resulted in a month in hospital plus two months immobilised in France. She had to meet all the costs herself, she lost several contracts in Mexico, and today she is still limping,” said lawyer Jean-Jacques Rinck.

“The Bocuse Institute just dropped her. They even tried to get her to sign a piece of paper stating that responsibility for the accident was divided. What lack of style,” Rinck said.

The Paul Bocuse Institute refused to comment. A hearing is set for November 8.
