Paris court rules Kadhafi son beat pregnant woman

PARIS, May 26 (AFP) – A Paris court sentenced the son of Libyan leader Moamer Kadhafi to a four-month suspended prison term for physically abusing his pregnant partner and carrying an unlicensed firearm, judicial sources said Thursday.

Hannibal Kadhafi, who did not attend the hearing in the French capital, was sentenced “for intentional violence on a vulnerable person, in this case his pregnant partner.”

Hannibal Kadhafi, who is in his 20s, was the subject of a formal protest by France to Libya after he allegedly took part in scuffles in two Paris luxury hotels on the night of February 1 during which he produced a handgun.

His pregnant partner, whose name was not given, pressed charges against the son of the Libyan leader, saying he had hit her landing her in hospital for treatment. She later withdrew the charges.

The French foreign ministry ruled that he did not have diplomatic immunity.
