Flights from Spain resume as air strike ends

19 February 2004

PARIS – The strike by French air traffic controllers which seriously disrupted flights from Spain this week was called off Thursday.

At least thirteen Iberia and Air Europa flights from Spain to Paris Orly Airport were cancelled after the industrial action.

Sources said sixty percent of all flights were cancelled to the airport during the three-day strike. There were also long delays.

The strike, which started Monday, spread to Paris Charles de Gaulle airport, where workers joined colleagues in striking as a mark of solidarity.

An agreement was reached late Wednesday night between the French Ministry of Transport and the unions.

The strike was over plans to relocate staff at Paris Orly airport.

A stoppage was called last week, causing the cancellation of 21 flights from Spain to Paris Orly.
