Both tuna trawlers operating between the Seychelles and Somalia avoided capture last week.

Madrid – Two Spanish fishing trawlers operating between the Seychelles and Somalia have escaped pirate attacks in the previous days, a Basque regional government official said Monday.

The Campo Libre Alai escaped an attack Monday and the Alakrana avoided capture on Thursday, said Pilar Unzalu, a fishing official in the government of the Basque region where both tuna trawlers are based, the Europa Press and Vasco Press news agencies reported.

Unzalu called on the Spanish government to take measures to protect the country's fishing fleet.

In April 2008 the Spanish fishing trawler Playa de Bakio was captured by pirates off Somalia and its crew held for six days before being freed.
