Spain's trade deficit widened 32.7 percent July from the same month last year, fifth monthly increase, the industry ministry said Tuesday.

The trade deficit -- the gap by which a country's imports exceed its exports -- jumped 32.7 percent during the period to 4.3 billion euros (5.6 billion dollars), it said in a statement.

The result reflected a 13.2 percent rise in exports to 16.4 billion euros that was offset by a 16.7 percent increase in imports to 20.7 billion euros.

During the first seven months of the year the trade deficit rose 11.5 percent over the same time last year to 30.5 billion euros.

Exports during the period soared by 13.6 percent, with shipments to France up by 12.2 percent and to Germany by 8.7 percent.
