The newly-wed bride was going to prolong her holiday by visiting her family in Spain while her husband flew straight back to Dubai after their honeymoon.

Madrid – A Spanish woman who was returning from her honeymoon in Brazil without her new husband was on board the Air France jet that disappeared over the Atlantic this week, media reported on Wednesday.

Anna Negra Barrabeig, 28, and Javier Alvarez Quero, 38, who both lived in Dubai for the past three years where they worked as consultants, were married near Barcelona in early May, El Pais reported.

After their honeymoon Quero decided to return directly to Dubai from Brazil but Barrabeig decided to prolong her holiday by visiting her family in northeastern Spain via the ill-fated flight to Paris from Rio de Janeiro.

Quero was received on his arrival at Dubai airport on Monday night by a psychologist, a doctor and two friends who broke the news that his wife had been lost in the air accident.

The young couple was well liked amongst Dubai's small Spanish community of around 1,000 people, El Pais reported, citing Spanish embassy sources in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates of which Dubai is part of.

Private Spanish television station Cuatro recently filmed a report about life in Dubai which included an interview with Barrabeig. It had planned to air the report on Sunday but has agreed not to do so at the request of her family.

The Airbus A330 plane with 228 people on board was four hours into its 11-hour flight when it disappeared Monday in mysterious circumstances.

Brazilian authorities confirmed the plane crashed into Brazilian waters after a five-kilometre strip of floating debris – including cables, plane components and fuel slicks – were spotted.
