Three arrested for ‘murder’ of British expats

17 July 2006

FUERTEVENTURA — Police arrested three people on Monday in connection with the suspected murder of two British expats whose bodies were found on Fuerteventura.

Brian and Tina Johnson, originally from Swansea, South Wales, disappeared last Tuesday after going to collect rent from a tenant.

Brian, 58, and Tina, 57, left their home in La Oliva to visit the German tenant and their unlocked car was found abandoned next day in Corralejo.

Their bodies were found over the weekend.

Police are searching for a fourth man in connection with the death of the couple.

A Spanish police spokesman said: “The bodies we found showed signs of violence and we believe they were murdered. We believe the bodies are those of Mr and Mrs Johnson.”

Police would not confirm reports the tenant, who owed EUR 1,000, had been arrested.

The couple retired to the Spanish island nine years ago with son Sam, who is in his 20s.
