2 April 2004

DUISBURG, GERMANY – A Madrid taxi driver picked up two teenage girls who asked him to drive them from Spain to Germany, but they got out without paying the fare of about EUR 3,000.

“They just walked off,” he told police.

The driver told police in the west German industrial city of Duisburg that he picked up the two teenagers at  Madrid airport.

The told him their families would pay him when he arrived in Duisburg.

But on arrival they said they had lied about the money.

The taxi driver then made his way back to Madrid after police said there was little chance of ever getting his fare, especially since he had no witnesses and no written agreement.
