Skinheads jailed for ‘Franco’ attack

LEIDA – Four skinheads who shouted “Long live Franco!” before attacking a woman in a bar were handed jail terms Wednesday.

A court in Lleida, in north-eastern Spain, sentenced the young men for ‘aggression and inflicting bodily harm’ on a woman.

The attack happened after they shouted “long live Franco!” as they were leaving a bar.

The woman told police: “They didn’t like the way I looked at them”.

She was punched repeatedly in the face and lost two teeth in the attack. She spent nearly six weeks off work recovering.

The four youths were sentenced to spend between 15-18 weekends attending detention centres. Three of them had to pay compensation totalling EUR 5,895.

The incident happened on 25 November 2001 in Lleida, when two couples were near the bar.

The court heard how the four skinheads “were out looking for trouble”.

For no apparent reason, they began insulting the two couples, who tried to ignore them.

One of the women told the skinheads to leave them alone. She was attacked by the four youths and lost two teeth.

As a result of the attack, she was on medical leave from work for 39 days.

One youth has been sentenced to 15 weekends of arrest, while the other three must serve 18 weekends.
