Santander group to back Renault and McLaren in F1 season

MADRID – Formula 1 driver Fernando Alonso will have at least one Spanish sponsor after Grupo Santander, through its online network for university-related matters, Universia, agreed to sign on with the Spanish driver.

Santander also decided to renew its sponsorship for Alonso’s former team, McLaren, thanks to the good results there last season. The group will also sponsor three Grand Prix events.

Last year at McLaren, Alonso was backed by insurance giant, Mutua Madrileña, who decided not to renew their contract with the British team this season – although the company denied the decision was Alonso-related.
