Queen Sofia says Spanish king doing well after surgery
Spain's King Juan Carlos I is very well after his weekend operation to remove a benign growth on his lung, Queen Sofia told reporters Monday.
The 72-year-old monarch, who underwent surgery on Saturday to remove a growth that doctors said showed no signs of malignancy, spent a “very good” night, Queen Sofia said as she arrived at a Barcelona hospital.
Princess Cristina, one of the king’s daughters, also arrived from Washington to be by her father’s bedside.
“I really wanted to see him,” she said, “we spoke a lot on the telephone and he is doing perfectly.”
On Sunday evening the hospital said it was “extremely satisfied” with the king’s progress. It will publish a new health report at 1800 GMT on Monday.
