Probe launched into ‘tampered’ bombing report

25 September 2006

MADRID — Spain’s leading anti-terrorism judge opened an investigation into allegations a report relating to the Madrid bombings was tampered with.

A right-wing campaign group, Spain and Liberty, claims an official report into the case of Hassan El Haski has been doctored with Tipex.

El Haski is one of the 29 people charged with the terrorist attacks on Madrid in March by a group of Islamic fundamentalists which claimed the lives of 191 people.

The attorney general asked Baltasar Garzon to investigate the claims.

The reports, which were supposedly changed, were passed to the court by the Spanish daily El Mundo last Friday.
